HROA AGM and Annual Dinner 2018

The Commodore and Committee of the HROA are pleased to invite you to our AGM and Annual Dinner on Friday 5th January 2018 at the Royal Thames Yacht Club, Knightsbridge, London.

The AGM proper will begin at 1800, and a cash bar will be available for the use of members and guests in the Club’s Britannia Bar from 1700. The AGM proceedings will continue with the award of the Association’s Trophies, a preview of forthcoming activities and an opportunity to ask questions of the Committee. Members may invite guests to the dinner which we expect to start at about 1930. Guests may not attend the AGM but are welcome to remain in the Britannia Bar.

This year we are offering a choice of main course (meat, fish or vegetarian) and third course (sweet dish or cheese) in the three-course dinner, which also includes coffee and mints. Menu choices are shown below and on the booking form. The price of £49 per person includes wines to accompany dinner (half a bottle per person). A non-alcoholic drink will be available as an alternative to wine if requested on the booking form.

Our after-dinner speaker will be author and former editor of Classic Boat magazine, Nic Compton. Nic will regale us with challenging but enticing tales of sailors (hopefully none from the HROA!) who have found being at sea all too much, for a variety of reasons. His latest book ‘Off The Deep End: A History of Madness At Sea’ contains many such stories including that of Donald Crowhurst, which many will remember. Nic’s other popular books include ‘Titanic On Trial’, ‘The Shipping Forecast’, and ’Notable Boats’. There is a link to his website below.

The RTYC’s dress code requires that gentlemen wear suit/blazer with tie and that ladies conform to an appropriate equivalent.
This is a popular event often booked to capacity. Please book your place using the on-line booking form (see link below). It would be helpful for payments to be made electronically (see details on the booking form). The closing date for applications will be Friday 31st December 2017 and refunds will not be given for any cancellations received after 1 January 2018.
