Benefits of HROA Membership

Our focus is on sailing:

  • We run two major rallies, usually at Yarmouth in the Spring and at Lymington in the Autumn. Both these rallies involve activities ashore and dinners in the Royal Solent Yacht Club and Royal Lymington Yacht Club, respectively.
  • Rallies and other ad hoc gatherings are also arranged by Members in their local areas, notably Scotland, the East Coast and Ireland, and we hope to be able to expand these to include southern Brittany and the Med.
  • Most years we run a 'rolling cruise' when Members may join or leave as their own sailing plans dictate. Recent cruises have been along the North Coast of France and the Channel Islands, and in the West Country from Falmouth to Dartmouth.

Off the water:

  • A Winter programme of talks, walks and visits around the country.
  • Recent visits have included: Chatham Dockyard, SS Great Britain in Bristol, the Royal Mail Museum and Bletchley Park, as well as various makers and suppliers of HR parts and spares.
  • Most years have seen courses and seminars on many topics of interest, including safety at sea, survival, diesel maintenance, sail and rig tuning and much more.
  • On the social front, we get together for walks and pub lunches. The major event of the winter social programme is the Annual Dinner and AGM, usually in the prestigious Royal Thames Yacht Club in Knightsbridge.

Information:

  • Many of our Members are hugely experienced HR owners who have sailed all over the world. They are only too pleased to share their knowledge.
  • Our website supports a full range of discussion forums.
  • The Blue Line, our in-house magazine, and a comprehensive Handbook which includes lists of Members and their yachts, is distributed to all Members each year.
  • To keep in touch while sailing, you can join the 'closed' (members only) HROA Cruising and HROA Chat Facebook pages. The Cruising page is for brief communication to inform of members’ whereabouts so that informal and impromptu gatherings can be arranged. The Chat page is for exchange of gossip and photographs. These are both proving to be very popular and membership is increasing.
  • Our website includes a For Sale/Wanted section where, subject to certain conditions, HROA Members may advertise sailing related items, including yachts, for sale to the wider public.
  • Many firms offer significant discounts to HROA Members.
